Journey Surveys Product Tour

Journey Surveys Product Tour

Date: August 2009
Involvement: Largely content creation; minimal design and development - in cooperation with Nat Budin (chief engineer of Journey Surveys)
Description: Nat hired me to write the product tour for the beta launch of his online survey software, Journey. As a user of an earlier version of Journey, I was uniquely positioned to write about the great features of the product. The design and development of the site is uniquely Nat's, but I did some styling of the product tour page, with Nat making final changes.
Technologies: XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery. Content management through Radiant CMS.

Bigfoot Declassified

Date: April 2009
Involvement: Design, development; minimal content creation.
Description: I was hired by a local author to come up with a simple landing page for the launch of his book, Bigfoot Declassified. I based the design primarily on Bigfoot art created by Alyson Lee, another collaborator on the project. I also established a blog, Facebook page, and MySpace page for the author to use for book promotion.
Technologies: XTHML, CSS

League of Extraordinary Hogwarts Students

League of Extraordinary Hogwarts Students

Involvement: Design, development, and content creation.
Description: This page was created to promote a LARP (live-action role-playing game) I wrote. The design is meant to mimic a 19th century newspaper heading, complete with faded colors and water spots.

Frugal in the Fruitlands

Frugal in the Fruitlands

Date: Launched June 2007; last updated August 2009
Involvement: Content creation; minimal design and development
Description: A blog I maintain on the topic of frugality, personal finance, and economics, with a particular focus on central Massachusetts, where I live. The blog runs on the WordPress CMS; for the design, I modified a freely-available WordPress theme to use my own header image and colors.
Technologies: XHTML, CSS, PHP. Content management through WordPress.

Kerrycoons Maine Coon cattery

kerrycoons.com Date: Circa 2006; updated regularly by owner.
Involvement: Design and development
Description: This is one of my first commissioned sites, although the commission came from a friend. The colors brown and green were chosen because a) McCloud, the Maine Coon showcased in the banner image, is a brown mackeral tabby pattern, and b) the cattery is named after County Kerry in Ireland.
Technologies: XTHML, CSS, PHP (header/footer)

Northern Lights Costuming Guild

Northern Lights Costuming Guild

Date: Circa 2005
Involvement: Design, development; minimal content creation
Description: In 2004-2006, I served as webmaster for the Northern Lights (NoL or NoeL) chapter of the International Costumers' Guild. I redesigned the site to improve usability and navigability, basing the design around the colors of aurora borealis. I no longer maintain this site, but the design is still in use by the club's current webmaster.
Technologies: XHTML, CSS

electric-monk.net

electric-monk.net

Date: Circa 2005
Involvement: Design, development, and content creation
Description: The domain name "electric-monk.net" was chosen after Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently duology. The background of the page is a repeated image featuring "electric-monk.net" spelled out in binary-coded ASCII in grey on white. The banner image was made to create a cut-through effect to the background. The funky mid-century colors were chosen completely at random, but I'm rather fond of them. The index page leads to "gallery of the past" and an "about" page, as well as to other hosted sites, including other personal projects of mine.
Technologies: XHTML, CSS, PHP (header/footer)

Becoming - Silicon & Thread Costuming

Becoming - home of silicon & thread costuming

Involvement: Design, development, and content creation.
Description: A site to showcase my husband's and my costume creations. The design is based around a character from the One Piece anime series "in costume." Obviously the art is not mine.
Technologies: XHTML, CSS, PHP (header/footer; retrieve costume pages)
